]]>As it every July 12th, today is National Different Colored Eyes Day!
When someone/thing has two different colored eyes, it is as a result of a condition called Heterochromia. There are three main types of heterochromia:
Heterochromia is generally as a result of genetics, caused by a disease, or due to an injury. With that being said, two diseases that could cause heterchromia are mosaicism and chimerism.
Hey kids, watch something that has someone with heterochromia (Christopher Walken, Dan Akroyd, Elizabeth Berkley, Mila Kunis, just to name a few), and I’ll see you tomorrow, when it’s time to celebrate…

]]>As it is every July 7th, today is National Dive Bar Day!
A “dive bar” is a subjective term. Generally, they’re the bar where you can walk in wearing a pair of ripped jeans and a t shirt, grab a cold beer, watch the game, and maybe play some darts or pool as well. Traditionally, they become that favorite bar that we always seem to end up at. Something along the lines of “Cheers,” a place where everyone seems to know your name, and you have several fond memories of visiting.
Last year was a tough one for dive bars, given all of this corona stuff. As we waited for bars to open back up, many of us longed for the day when we could stroll into our favorite establishment, say “hey!” to our favorite bartender, and have our favorite beverage. Luckily, it seems as though we’ve turned the corner, and we’re back!
Hey kids, shout out your favorite dive bar, and I’ll see you tomorrow, when its time to celebrate…

]]>As it is every June 2nd, today is National Rotisserie Chicken Day!
I feel like it was about 10 years ago, when grocery stores started regularly stocking fresh, rotisserie chickens in their prepared foods sections. Ever since then, these have been a go-to for me, whenever I needed a quick meal. The great thing about them, is that they’re super versatile. First off, they’re generally just healthy, which is, of course, a good thing. Second, you can do so much with them, whether you use the chicken for salads or sandwiches, or just separate it and eat as is, you’re fine either way. Also, they’re normally rather inexpensive, as well, as come in a variety of flavors, and you can’t go wrong with that.
I remember back in the day, when I used to be a bouncer, and these used to be my jam. I would be going from my day job to the bar, and didn’t have a ton of time in between, so I’d stop at the grocery store and get a lemon pepper rotisserie chicken. Then, as I was waiting for the doors to open, I’d sit at our bar, eat that rotisserie chicken with my bare hands, and wash it down with as many cups of pickle juice as I wanted. Besides it being healthy and delicious, this served a very important purpose—when I was IDing people at the door, people would remember that they don’t wanna fuck with the guy who smells like cooked chicken and pickles.
Hey kids, enjoy a rotisserie chicken, and I’ll see you tomorrow, when it’s time to celebrate…

]]>As it is every May 26th, today is National Blueberry Cheesecake Day!
On their own, blueberries and cheesecake are solid, but the marriage of the two is otherworldly. Besides your traditional blueberry cheesecake, there are many other variables, such as baked vs unbaked, what type of crust, and whether to use cream cheese or cottage cheese. Obviously, personal preferences come into play, but you truly cannot go wrong whatever you choose.
Fun fact-early on in my life, I didn’t like either of these two things. I wouldn’t eat any fruits or veggies, which made blueberries a no go, and I also had only tried Italian Cheesecake, made with ricotta, and I wasn’t a fan. Fast forward about 25 years, and I’m basically the opposite. I definitely enjoy berries, and cheesecakes of all varieties are high up on my list of desserts (on the rare occasion I have it).
Hey kids, enjoy some blueberry cheesecake, and I’ll see you tomorrow, when it’s time to celebrate…

]]>As it is every May 20th, today is National Rescue Dog Day!
National Rescue Dog Day is here to bring awareness to the 3.3 million pups entering shelters every year. It’s hard to believe the conditions that these animals endure before even getting to a shelter (many times abuse, neglect, and abandonment), but it is a reality. With that being said, these are the animals that need your love the most. They just wanna snug up on the couch with you at the end of the long day.
We here at The Delightful Laugh have made it clear that we’re animal lovers, with an emphasis on doggos. There are many great ways to celebrate National Rescue Dog Day, including adopting a good boy or girl. Of course, not everyone is in a position to do that, so here are some other ways to celebrate:
Hey kids, visit a shelter today, and I’ll see you tomorrow, when it’s time to celebrate…

]]>As it is every May 19th, today is National Devil’s Food Cake Day!
Devil’s food cake dates back to the late 1800’s. In the August 10, 1898 edition of the Hagerstown Exponent (Hagerstown, Indiana), the first recipe for devil’s food cake was published. While it appears to be similar, devil’s food cake is different from traditional chocolate cake. Devil’s food cake is darker, and uses boiling water, as well as cocoa, in preparation. Little-known fact–devil’s food cake is the opposite of angel’s food.
While I’m not a big sweets guy, that extends to richness as well. For those reasons, this day doesn’t quite appeal to me. Don’t get me wrong, I can take down a slice of cake every now and then, but I’ll generally stay the eff away from some devil’s food cake…unless there’s a huge glass of ice cold milk there. That;s pretty much the great equalizer when it comes to sweets for thus big guy. Still, that just means one more piece for you guys.
Hey kids, run with the devil, and I’ll see you tomorrow, when it’s time to celebrate…

]]>As it is every May 12th, today is National Nutty Fudge Day!
Hot on the heels of Mother’s Day (a holiday that normally includes the giving of sweets), we have National Nutty Fudge Day. A cousin to the treat written about on National Peanut Butter Fudge Day, today celebrates the confectionery delight that incorporates crunchy nuts in the slabs of chocolate. The most regular types of nuts to find in fudge include pecans and walnuts.
I’m not sure if this is a surprise, but I’m not really a nut guy. Just never really got into them. When you combine that with my dislike of sugar, this isn’t really an important day for the big guy. HOWEVERRRR (**Stephen A Smith voice**), I’m a man of the people, and I know a lot of you weirdos are into that, so here we are. Whether for yourself, or someone else, some nutty fudge may be the perfect pick me up during all of this corona bullshit.
Hey kids, indulge in some sweets, and I’ll see you tomorrow, when it’s time to celebrate…

]]>As it is every May 11th, today is National Foam Rolling Day!
For those of you who don’t know what foam rolling is, you’re probably unathletic. Foam rollers are generally cylinders used to on sore parts of your body, in an attempt to relieve aches, pains, and strains. Foam rolling has been called “the poor man’s massage,” as it’s something you can do on a regular basis, and doesn’t cost too much money. Interestingly enough, foam rollers have been around since the 1920’s, but have certainly increased their visibility over the last decade.
Being the gym beast that I am, and adding in the fact that I’m in my mid 30’s, I’ve been living that foam roller life for a minute. I actually have several forms of therapy I’ll use on the reg, for different parts of my body. I use the inversion table to help relieve discomfort in my back, then everything is about the roller. I use one roller on quads and IT band, then I actually use a baseball to hit some spots on my shoulders, as well as my hips. When you get old like me, this is just the cost of doing business.
Hey kids, loosen up those muscles, and I’ll see you tomorrow, when it’s time to celebrate…

]]>As it is every May 6th, today is National Nurses Day!
National Nurses Day always begins National Nurses Week. National Nurses Week ends on May 12, which coincides with the birthday of Florence Nightingale, who is recognized as the founder of modern nursing. During the Crimean War, Nightingale became known as “The Lady with the Lamp,” as she routinely made rounds at night, checking on her patients.
Doctors and first responders are somewhat regularly recognized for what they do, however nurses don’t always get their just due. While other people in medical offices and hospitals put in a great effort, nurses are routinely the ones doing the grunt work, for lack of a better term. One positive to come out of this coronavirus shit is that it appears the tide is changing, and people are recognizing the nurses, as well as their colleagues, for their front line work.
Hey kids, thank a nurse, and I’ll see you tomorrow, when it’s time to celebrate…
