Good Morning Jamokes, it’s Thursday November 14, 2019!
As it is every November 14th, today is National Pickle Day!
“Pickle” comes from the Dutch word “pekel,” which translates to “brine.” Of course, a pickle is made by taking a cucumber and letting it ferment in brine. First, you take the cucumber and blanch it. From there, you put the cuke in a jar with various items to infuse it with flavor(s). Depending on how long you let it sit in the brine, the flavors will be stronger.
My first introduction to a pickle was when I was younger, and my family would go to a deli. I’d inevitably get a hot dog, and house EVERY SINGLE half-sour pickle. As I’ve grown up, I’ve expanded my pickle horizons (tell me that doesn’t sound weird) to include sour pickles, among other types. Over the last couple of years, I’ve also discovered the insane deliciousness of fried pickles, and I’m still trying to figure out how I lived as long as I did without them. If you haven’t tried them, I highly recommend you do so.
Hey kids, partake in the pickle of your choice, and I’ll see you tomorrow, when it’s time to celebrate…
