Time To Celebrate…National Jukebox Day

Good Morning Jamokes, it’s Wednesday November 27, 2019!

As it is every Thanksgiving Eve, today is National Jukebox Day!

Jukeboxes originated in 1889, thanks to Louis Glass and William Arnold. As managers of the Pacific Phonograph Co, they invented the first coin-operated music machine in San Francisco. In 1905, John Gabel introduced “The Automatic Entertainer,” which allowed 24 musical options. Various iterations of the jukebox were introduced until the 1960’s, when the modern version was rolled out.

Being that tonight is widely regarded as one of the biggest bar nights of the year, it’s only fitting that today be declared National Jukebox Day. While the jukebox has changed drastically over the years, it’s only fitting that they can now be controlled via phone app. I’m fairly certain that Touch Tunes is the preeminent app-based jukebox these days, and they can provide a lot of fun, despite the bar you’re in. An old trick that my friends and I would play was to connect to a machine in a nearby establishment, and play several songs that wouldn’t be appreciated there. Sure, it was kinda stupid and childish, but it would be funny to see the various people in a dive bar start to mouth the words to Bye, Bye, Bye when they thought no one was looking.

Hey kids, play some bangers, and I’ll see you tomorrow, when it’s time to celebrate…
