Good Morning Jamokes, it’s Tuesday July 2, 2019!
As it is every July 2nd, today is National Anisette Day!
Anisette is a liqueur popular in Europe, specifically France, Italy, Portugal, and Spain. Anisette is known for it’s licorice flavor, which comes from aniseed of the anis herb. Anisette is distilled dryer in Europe, as opposed to how it is in the United States, and sometimes sees spices and/or fruits added to the distilling process.
There are several ways to enjoy anisette. It can be enjoyed straight, either sipped or taken as a shot, or potentially used in a cocktail. Due to the strength of anisette, many times it is mixed with coffee, gin, bourbon, or water. Also, it can be used in baking, as my grandmother is known for making pizzelles, made with a fair amount of anisette!
Hey kids, enjoy some anisette, and I’ll see you tomorrow, when it’s time to celebrate…
