Good Morning Jamokes, it’s Thursday February 11, 2021!
As it is every February 11th, today is National White Shirt Day!
While you probably don’t know it, National White Shirt Day is union-related! This day celebrates the end of a historic auto workers strike, back in 1937. When The Great Depression hit, it caused everyone to rethink business strategies. The automakers did this by letting go part of their workforce, and hiring workers at lower wages. On December 30, 1936, GM workers staged a sit-in in a Flint plant, and the 44 day strike made waves through the auto industry at the time, and all the way through today.
I’ll admit, I’m not totally sure how auto workers, a strike, and white shirts work together, but me being confused is nothing new. What I can say is that I’m a big time white t shirt guy. Whether I’m wearing one under a cardigan, under a black leather jacket, or just by itself, I’d like to think that I’m doing my part to keep the white shirt industry going!
Hey kids, wear a white shirt, and I’ll see you tomorrow, when it’s time to celebrate…
