Time To Celebrate…National U.S. Postage Stamp Day

As it is every July 1st, today is National U.S. Postage Stamp Day!

On July 1, 1847, The United States introduced the first postage stamp. Despite this, they were not required on mail until 1855. During this eight year period, mail sent without a stamp would have to be paid for by the recipient.

While the primary function of a stamp is to send mail, their is a significant market for collectible stamps. Collecting stamps doesn’t rank as a hobby of mine, but, to each their own. According to a 2018 article on History.com, the following are the top 10 most valuable U.S. stamps:
