As it is every April 3rd, today is National Tweed Day!
Tweed (the fabric) is rough, woolen cloth that was originally hand-woven. Originating in Scotland, tweed is usually heavy in earth tones. While the fabric is exciting enough, there is also a thought that this day celebrates William Tweed. “Boss” Tweed was a powerful Senator, who became infamous for his political corruption. Born on April 3, 1823 (what a coincidence), Tweed was known as the poster boy for political corruption.
