Good Morning Jamokes, it’s Thursday June 13, 2019!
As it is every June 13th, today is National Sewing Machine Day!
The first patent for the design of the sewing machine was granted in 1790, to Englishman Thomas Saint. Unfortunately, nothing happened with this until 1874, when William Newton Wilson came across the plans in the London Patent Office. After that, Wilson created a working version. Separately, the first sewing machine was patented in the United States in 1842, by John Greenough.
Sewing machines…I mean, they are pretty important, especially for clothes and shit like that. These machines make the production of clothes and other textiles easier, and especially allows for mass production. Production time dropped, which lead to lower costs, and subsequently, lower prices.
Hey kids, take time to learn how to sew, and I’ll see you tomorrow, when it’s time to celebrate…
