Good Morning Jamokes, it’s Friday January 3, 2019!
As it is every January 3rd, today is National Drinking Straw Day!
The very first drinking straw is thought to have been used by the Sumerians, and dates back to 3000 BC. At this time, they were used to drink beer, and avoid the sediment at the bottom of the drink. Similarly, the Argentinians had a metal straw, which they called a bombilla. Despite this, the Marvin Stone is the one credited with the patent for the paper drinking straw, which he received on January 3, 1888.
The straw is an interesting item. Some people use them specifically to drink through, while others (myself included), use it to stir their liquid. Also, there is a group of heathens out there who use straws to snort cocaine (damned druggies). No matter what, there’s no denying that you can use a straw for many purposes, as long as it’s not one of those stupid paper straws that the kids are using these days, because those things are shit.
Hey kids, find a reason to use a straw, and I’ll see you Monday, when it’s time to celebrate…
