As it is every June 28th, today is National Alaska Day!
The 49th state admitted to The Union is also the largest in the country. On January 3, 1959, Alaska was welcomed to these United States. Despite the land size, Alaska is home to the 3rd lowest population. Other fun Alaska facts include:
- Home to the largest mountain peaks in the country
- The Iditarod Race takes place annually, running 1150 miles from Anchorage to Nome
- Alaska is known as “The Last Frontier”
- Alaska was purchased by the US, from Russia, on March 30, 1867
- Before becoming a state, Alaska was known as the “Territory of Alaska”
